Privacy Policy

SYNAPS ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit our website, use our products, or otherwise interact with us, and how we handle that information. It applies to all visitors, customers, and prospective customers.

SYNAPS is operated from Australia and we comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Where you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we also comply with the GDPR.

1. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways:

  • Information you give us, when you place an order, create an account, subscribe to our newsletter, contact us, or apply for a job. Examples include your name, email, postal address, phone number, payment details, and the messages you send us.
  • Information we collect automatically, when you browse our site we receive log data such as your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring URL, and timestamps. We use privacy-respecting analytics that does not rely on cookies for cross-site tracking.
  • Information from third parties, we receive limited information from payment, fulfilment, and marketing partners (for example, Stripe sends us an order confirmation; Klaviyo records whether an email was opened).

2. How we use information

  • To process and fulfil your orders and manage subscriptions.
  • To communicate with you about your orders, account, or support requests.
  • To send marketing emails when you have opted in, with the ability to unsubscribe at any time.
  • To improve our products, website, and customer experience.
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or other unlawful activity.
  • To comply with our legal obligations and enforce our terms.

3. Legal bases (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Contract, to take and fulfil orders and provide customer support.
  • Consent, for marketing communications and certain analytics.
  • Legitimate interests, to improve our services, secure our site, and prevent fraud, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation, for tax, accounting, and compliance.

4. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with vendors and partners who help us run the business:

  • Stripe, for payment processing and subscription management.
  • Klaviyo, for newsletter management and customer messaging.
  • Hosting and analytics providers, to operate the website.
  • Shipping carriers, to deliver your order.
  • Professional advisers, accountants, lawyers, and auditors, where necessary.
  • Government bodies, where required by law.

Each partner is contractually required to handle your information securely and only for the purposes we engage them.

5. International transfers

Our partners may store data outside of Australia (for example, the United States or the European Union). When that happens, we put in place safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) so your information continues to be protected to a comparable standard.

6. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law. Order records are typically retained for seven years for tax compliance. Marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

7. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
  • Delete your information, subject to retention obligations.
  • Stop using your information for marketing.
  • Port your information to another provider in a structured format.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or your local data protection authority.

8. Children's privacy

Our website is intended for parents and guardians purchasing on behalf of their athlete. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep the site secure, remember your preferences, and understand how it is used. You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect how the site works.

10. Security

We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. Payments are handled by Stripe and we never store your full card details on our servers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page indicates when it was last updated. Material changes will be notified by email or with a notice on the site.
